Age-related diseases account for over 50 percent of the global disease burden. A report from Healthspan Capital highlights key players, trends, and technologies that target the root causes of aging. Which longevity biotech companies are leading the way in 2025 to extend healthy human lifespan?
The longevity biotech field is at an inflection point where its acceptance by society and policymakers will determine how quickly it develops. The interest is growing—but more is needed. The field has accelerated rapidly over the past two decades due to scientific advancements in aging research, including genetic manipulation and AI-driven biology.
Healthspan Capital is a venture capital firm investing in longevity biotechnology (“LongBio”) and regenerative medicine. In their new report, LongBio Report 2025, they highlight that people are living longer, but in poor health, and that the aging process itself drives most disease and decline. Therefore, by targeting aging, we can prevent and treat most ailments. The authors—Alexander Tchernev, Nathan Cheng, Sebastian Brunemeier, and Michael Chinen—write:
“Our health is our most valuable asset. Let’s invest in it.”
And they leave us with this thought:
“Imagine a future where each passing birthday no longer reminds us of the limited time we have left, but rather serves as a countdown toward the incredible future we can look forward to exploring—and building.”
The report highlights six different areas and has identified leading LongBio companies within each area working to prevent, treat, and reverse aging.
6 Areas with Potential to Extend Healthy Human Lifespan
Removal
To eliminate or reverse detrimental changes that occur during aging. Examples include the elimination of senescent cells or the reversal of harmful chemical modifications.
Replacement
To replace components that become dysfunctional with age, such as mitochondria, stem cells, and organs.
Reprogramming
To rejuvenate cells using reprogramming factors (such as the Yamanaka factors) without erasing cellular identity.
Discovery Platforms
Platforms to identify interventions that affect the aging process without having a specific molecular target in mind from the outset.
Metabolic Modulation
Manipulation of metabolic pathways, for example inhibiting mTOR and NNMT, activating AMPK and the apelin receptor, reducing inflammaging, and using stem cell secretions.
Multiple Mechanisms
Simultaneously pursuing multiple mechanisms of action (MoAs) to target the aging process.
